October 19 - Christine Varga has been appointed Growth & Development Director for National Collegiate Rugby and will lead development initiatives across the women’s and men’ divisions.
In her new role, Varga will work with NCR’s competition directors to foster the growth of rugby, with a particular focus on grassroots, student-funded programs. Varga will develop growth plans in high-potential geographies and provide support to new and emerging programs in areas such as recruiting, fundraising and club governance.
"Growing collegiate rugby is more than just a numbers game and when adding to rosters or starting new teams, it’s vital that a support system be in place with resources, mentors and processes to increase program success and sustainability,” said Varga.
A key focus of the role will be coaching student leaders to establish sustainable rugby programs that have high engagement with school administrations and alumni. In addition, Varga will spearhead new national growth campaigns and identify local best practices that can be shared across rugby clubs.
Varga added “NCR's model is strongly rooted in providing training and leadership development opportunities for the student athletes in executive board roles leading their college teams.”
Varga joins NCR with 27 years of experience in higher education working in recreation and sport program growth as well as student development as the Associate Director of Campus Recreation Programs at Baldwin Wallace University.
She has been a parent of a female rugby player for 11 years and began oversight of Baldwin Wallace’s rugby program in 2017.
