June 25 - National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) named 1,059 student athletes as 2023-24 Scholastic All Americans. Growing by 40% since last year, the Scholastic All American list includes 402 women and 657 men from over 157 schools.
This annual program recognizes high performing student athletes across college rugby. To qualify as a Scholastic All American, student athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic year and be rostered for 50% of the Fall 15s A-side matches or rostered for 50% of the A-side Spring 7s tournaments. This selective group of Scholastic All Americans represents about 1 out of 18 student athletes competing in college rugby.
Over 115 men’s programs recognized Scholastic All Americans from the past season. Leading the way were the University of Denver, Bowdoin College, Harvard University, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Dartmouth and Brown with 15 or more recipients. Several colleges boasted twelve or more Scholastic All Americans including Richmond, Endicott, Bentley, South Carolina, Fairfield, Southern Nazarene and Hampden-Sydney College.
Amongst 70 women’s programs, Kenyon College placed twenty student athletes on the Scholastic All American list. Eight women’s programs named at least 10 Scholastic All Americans, including Vassar College, Coast Guard, Carleton College, Brown, Fairfield, Yale, Wayne State and University of Illinois - Chicago.
