Sam Houston State defeated Kansas, 64-0, Saturday at SaberCat Stadium in Houston, TX to win the Lone Star Bowl. It’s the Bearkats’ third-straight Lone Star Bowl title.

Sam Houston scored 10 tries in the victory, securing a 31-0 lead by halftime. Lock Larry Vojacek led the way with three tries, and hooker Drake Torno, wing Lucas Stagg and reserve center Tremel Christian all scored two each. Scrumhalf Lane O’Brien also dotted one down. Devon Smith slotted six conversions, and Ignacio Zumelzu added another.

MVP of the Lonestar Bowl was awarded to Bearkats #5, Larry Vojacek.

It was the first-ever bowl appearance, and a valuable learning experience, for a young Kansas side. More than half of the Jayhawks in the game day squad were freshmen.
