NCR Decision Regarding Use of Ineligible Players

National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) is proud to oversee nearly 14,000 men’s and women’s collegiate rugby players and over 500 programs across the United States. The mission of NCR is to foster the on and off-field growth and development of collegiate rugby teams, student athletes and coaches.

Critical to the growth and development is a strict adherence to all the rules of the game, not the least of which is the requirement that every club field a fully eligible team.

Regrettably, the New Mexico Highlands University Vatos Rugby Club was found to have used ineligible players during the 2018-2019 season and as a result their 2019 NSCRO 7s National Championship has been vacated and they are ineligible for post-season play in 2020-2021. This sanction was necessary to ensure the competitive integrity of all NCR matches.

The foundation of a level and fair playing field for all competitors is the honor and integrity of those playing. All NCR member clubs must uphold their commitment to creating such a playing field.
