Match Preview: Army vs Navy Saturday October 31

Fall rugby is back in a big way.  This Saturday, October 31, the US Naval Academy take on West Point, Army Knights in Annapolis, MD.  The men’s team plays at 2:00pm EST, immediately following the Army v Navy women’s match up at 11:00am.
The men’s match will be streamed live on Facebook. Tune in to Army or Navy Facebook for the livestream link.
The Army-Navy game will be one of the only Fall college rugby matches in the country due to the COVID-19 safety protocols.  To  prepare for the match, both teams have been in a bubble since summer and worked really hard to ensure the safety of the teams.
Coaches Gavin Hickie (Navy) and Matt Sherman (Army) have only met two times, and both have won a match each.  In his fourth season with Navy, Coach Hickie said “This is the best of the best of student athletes.  We will both put it all on the field, but be on the team team one day. There have not been many matches leading up to this meeting, so this will be a unique situation with a lot of unknowns.”
The match follows the recent announcement that the Rugby East Conference, including Army and Navy, will join National Collegiate Rugby for the 2021 season.
